Black Sun Ensemble was a legendary psychedelic rock band from Tucson, AZ. In 1988, Black Sun Ensemble released a self-titled and quite crazy record on Reckless Records. On this debut release, band founders Jesus Acedo and Odin Helginson -- along with Michael Glidiwell and Tony Edelbrock -- create a swirling pastiche of gypsy carnival madness. Very quickly the band garnered a devoted following.

Unfortunately, the band members' notorious lack of sobriety as well as the demands of Odin's seventeen illegitimate children caused the band to be short-lived. In 1991, Absolute A Go Go compiled the best of the band's unreleased recordings. Tragic Magic shows Black Sun Ensemble at their best. Featuring brilliant vocals by Odin (the self-proclaimed king of the Tucson gypsies) and dizzying guitar playing by Jesus Acedo, this record is truly special and documents something that happened in the '80s in the desert.
